‘Ugh … how do these things work again?’ Steve sighed, looking at the hypermodern elevator in the Helicarrier.
When you walked by, you couldn’t help but notice the First Avenger pushing random places around the lift doors. As friendly as you were, you tapped his shoulder.
‘Can I help you?’ you politely asked.
Steve spun around to face you and two bright blue eyes eyed you surprised.
‘Ehm.. if it’s not much trouble, could you explain me how these lifts work?’ he hesitantly asked.
You chuckled but stopped immediately when you noticed that the Captain turned red.
‘I’m sorry sir,’ you apologized quickly. “I didn’t mean to offend you.”
Secretly you hoped he would say anything to you, but he just stood there, really out of place with his forties haircut. The silence already lasted 10 seconds –Yes you were counting- so you pushed the elevator button.
‘Here you go, just push this button,’ you mumbled.
He gave you a relieved smile. Various question swirled around in your mind. So many you wanted to ask him! Like how things were back in the days and if he could easily adapt to these times filled with technology. †But yet you were to shy when it came to talking to guys, so you simply watched how he entered the elevator and kept it by friendly helping.
What a magnificent buttocks, you sighed.
‘Sorry ‘mam, I didn’t catch your name,’ he suddenly said while turning around.
To his -and your- surprise, the lift doors closed and he was stuck between them. Somehow the combination of all of this was super hilarious and you started giggling.
‘I’m.. so … sorry,’ you tried to say while laughing uncontrollably.
Grabbing onto your stomach you walked to the elevator and pressed the open doors button. Now also tears were streaming down your cheeks.
‘I’m … really … sorry, I think Fury had these made to embarrass people,” you tried to explain while controlling your laughter. “I mean, you’re the third person today that got stuck between these doors.”
After a few minutes you wiped your cheeks dry and realized he had asked you something right before getting squeezed between the doors.
“Agent (Y/Ln), but you can call me (Y/n). Pleased to meet you Captain,” you managed to say politely and stuck out your hand.
He grabbed it and planted a kiss on top. Slowly dying inside you turned red. Your intention had been that he would’ve shaken it, but you liked his response way more.
Such a gentleman, you thought.
“Uh.. I don’t usually do this, but do you fancy grabbing a cup of coffee after I’m done working?” you hesitantly asked while scratching the back of your head.
Steve looked at you and for a moment you feared that he was going to laugh with you, because he was an Avenger and you were just a simple agent of S.H.I.E.L.D, but that’s not how he was.
“Yeah, sure!” he answered with a smile. “When does you shift end?”
You looked down at your watch and realized it was Saturday and on that day you always had to work pretty late. Plus you had promised to help a friend with moving tomorrow. You cursed.
“I’m sorry, Captain, but I have to work the late one today, so maybe next week?”
You really hoped he wouldn’t change his mind and awkwardly pouted. Rogers leaned against the now closed doors of the elevator and gave you another one of his warm smiles.
“Yeah, maybe another time,” he agreed and walked towards the staircase. “I prefer things that don’t move automatically,” he added, “and it was nice meeting you Agent (Y/Ln).”
You watched how he opened the door and disappeared. You were a bit angry because he had said maybe another time which, in your experience, meant never. He was probably offended because you had laughed with him. Oh jolly.
With a puzzled expression on your face you marched back to your workstation. If only you hadn’t promise your friend to help her move, but once you'd promised something, you did it. That’s just how you rolled.
Little did you know Steve Rogers was a man full of surprises.
You watched how all your co-workers left at 7 o’clock. Damnit nightshift! But there always had to be one agent on call. Normally you would watch a movie or TV-series or read a book to keep you awake, but now you were staring at your computer screen, still thinking about your encounter with the Captain America. You sighed.
Suddenly you heard someone approaching. Not knowing who it was, you pulled your gun out of the holster and hid behind the wall, which was built at the back of your tiny cubicle office. You raised your weapon and the tension took over. Adrenaline rushed through your system, because nobody was supposed to be in the office at this late hour.
As soon as the person walked past you, you pushed your gun against his back. You were about to shout to him that he had to explain why he was here, but then you recognized his magnificent buttocks. Steve turned around and looked at the gun, which was now pointed to his chest.
“Oh God, Mr. Rogers, I didn’t expect you here!” you exclaimed.
You noticed he was holding a pick nick basket. Holy shit.
“Yeah, me neither,” he smiled. “But I thought maybe I could keep you company?”
You couldn’t help but grin.
“Yeah sure!” you nodded.
He placed the basket on your desk and you started to clean all the mess, so he could unpack it. This was so cute, your stomach made a little somersault.
“And you can call me Steve,” he mumbled with a shy smile.
After you were both finished, he lighted the candle and helped you to your chair. You had to admit you’d never felt so girly before. You both ate your dinner and discussed the normal stuff. You were really enjoying it and you could tell Steve was too. Besides you finally got answers on all the questions you always had wanted to ask him. When you were both finished, he leaned over towards you.
“I have to admit that I asked Tony for some help,” he whispered as if it was a state secret.
“Don’t worry about it, it’s the company that matters,” you reassured him.
Suddenly the alarm went off. It wasn’t the alarm for S.H.I.E.L.D agents, but the alarm for the Avengers to assemble. Steve immediately jumped up and wanted to head to the exit, but you ran towards him and grabbed his arm.
“What are you.. ,” he wanted to ask, but you quickly pressed your lips on his.
“That’s for good luck,” you smiled when Captain America turned red.
He carefully palmed your face with his hands and fiercely kissed you.
“Then I guess tonight is my lucky night,” he said before bolting out the door.
